On Saturday, September 10th on central courts of Baganashil there was held a charity tennis tournament Play4Life Open 2011 organized by The Initiative Group Play4Life in partnership with The Rotary Club of Almaty.
30 amateur players, senior managers from international and local companies such as Omega Chemicals, Resmi Group, USAID, Central Insurance, HSBC, Limpopo, Samruk Kazyna Finance, Elsi Tech, and others participated. The organizers were well supported by the team of the Rotaract youth organization volunteers.
The tournament was sponsored by HSBC, Alatau insurance, RG Brands with ASU water, KLM airline, The Tian Shan Group, Argento restaurant, Ciao Pizza, Aldo Coppola Italian beauty salon, Sultan and Henkel. There were also many individuals who donated to the project.
The cheerleaders welcomed participants in the morning opening ceremony with welcome speech afterward done by The Initiative Group Play4Life representatives Yerlan Bulgarian and Yelena Tsoy, President of The Rotary Club of Almaty Martin Quirke and Director of Kazakhstan’s Tennis Federation Marat Baimukhamedov. The Kazakhstan famous tennis player Zarina Diyas which was the finalist of the Kremlin Cup 2010 came to the tournament to support this wonderful idea. She noticed that organization of the charity tournaments abroad is a regular tradition; in Kazakhstan, the Play4Life Open was the first she heard about and she was glad to support the idea in her own country.
All participants being non-professional players showed a high level of the game. Talgat Norembayev became the third prize winner, Alexander Tsoy took the second prize and the champion of the tournament was Dmitriy Dmitriyev who received a business class round-trip ticket to any destination from KLM. Dmitriy is an annual participant of the Play4Life Open tournaments and it was his first time he got the title of the absolute champion.
All funds raised from the tournament including fees, corporate sponsorship, and individual donations will go for the purchase of the frames and windows for the orphanage in Karakastek village.
